Diagnostic Radiology

Our Radiology Department offers a wide range of modern imaging technologies to be applied in inpatient and outpatient diagnostics:

Conventional X-ray Diagnosis
Starting in December 2007, all X-ray examinations will be carried out, processed and archived with the most advanced digital technology. Thus, especially the X-rays taken of patients lying in the intensive care unit are now carried out with consistently high image quality. Immediately after interpretation, all patient images are available in the centralized optical archive, where they can be accessed at any time from all parts of the clinic. Digital transmission to other clinics is possible as well.

Mammography
Mammography equipment of the latest generation was installed in April 2003, reducing patient radiation exposure up to 30%. In addition, special large-format images and high-resolution magnification techniques are employed to visualize the smallest calcifications. The latest digital screen storage technology is used as well.

Both equipment and staff are certified for the federal unified mammography screening program. Conspicuous tissue changes are also examined with sonography to allow tissue removal guided by sonographic techniques, thus permitting the histological detection of benign or malignant tissue alterations before surgery.

Instant Digital Image Information (DSI)
We are equipped with a current digital flouroscopy unit with a large-screen image intensifier for instant digital imaging information. DSI automatically delivers the best possible sharply delineated images in the fluoroscopic image-taking of the chest, stomach, small intestine, colon and blood vessels. The unique Pulsaris System reduces radiation exposure to considerably less than half.

Bucky Diagnosis Workplace
The modern Bucky diagnosis workplace with fully electronic tomography installation is ideal for problematic patients of the intensive care unit. The X-ray table that can be lowered plus the variable focus technique allows the taking of the sharpest images with minimal radiation exposure.

Computerized Tomography (CT)
An ultramodern 16-line CT unit with 3-D reconstruction capability is available for diagnostic purposes. It allows fast, high-resolution imaging of all body regions, especially of the heart with visualization of the coronary arteries (cardio CT). In addition, we offer special examination techniques and interventional measures:

  • Virtual intestinal reflection and bronchoscopy
  • Automated search of circular lung foci with computer-assisted analysis and assessment of the future course of the disease
  • CT-targeted organ or lymph node puncture for tissue diagnosis
  • CT-controlled pain therapy (radicular blocks, faceted joint blocks)
  • CT angiography, especially of the vessels leading to the brain, of
the renal arteries as well as the pelvic and leg arteries
  • Determination of bone density (osteodensitometry)

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
We use a high-performance unit with a 1.5-tesla magnet of the latest generation for magnetic resonance imaging. The unit is equipped with the latest gradient systems and receiver coils, thus allowing radiation-free imaging of all body regions.

In addition, MR angiographies and visualizations of the bile ducts and pancreas can also be carried out with it. The unit has a free diameter that exceeds 60 cm and therefore guarantees high patient comfort.
