Gastroenterology

The emphasis here is in the diagnosis and therapy of diseases of the esophagus, stomach, small intestine, colon, bile ducts, liver and pancreas. These diseases can be functional disorders, inflammatory or tumor diseases.
We offer highly specialized around-the-clock care close to the patient’s home.

The functional gastroenterological diagnosis consists of

24-hour esophageal pH monitoring
Resorption tests (includes H2S breathing test)
Chemical laboratory analyses
Examinations for motility and transit
Ultrasound examinations

The ultrasound examination of the abdominal organs is done with state-of-the-art equipment that allows a widening of the diagnosis by applying contrast medium intensified sonography and color Doppler and duplex sonography of the abdominal vessels. Organ biopsies are carried out with low risk under sonographic control.

The following endoscopic diagnostic procedures are available:

Flexible endosonography (endoscopic ultrasound in radial and sector technique) of esophagus, stomach, bile ducts, pancreas and colon – if needed, with fine needle puncture of submucosal or transmucosal lesions
Indications for endosonography: Local tumor staging and follow-up care in the esophagus, stomach, duodenum, colon, pancreas, bile ducts and their surroundings, chronic pancreatitis, diagnostics of bile duct stones, diagnosis and treatment of pancreatic pseudocysts, pararectal abscesses and fistulas, clarification of unclear strictures and wall processes in the gastrointestinal tract.

Depending on the patient’s preferences, endoscopic examinations are carried out without preliminary medication or under (analgo-) sedation and administration of oxygen. During the procedure, the cardiovascular system is monitored continuously. An anesthesiologist can be present if required.

The examination is done with modern, high-resolution videoendoscopy equipment, if needed as chromoendoscopy (i-scan / endoscopic coloring of the gastrointestinal tract mucosa). The clinic’s endoscopy equipment was one of the first to be converted to the latest high-definition (HD) format in Germany.

The endoscopy equipment is cleaned automatically before every use in accordance with current hygiene standards.

Therapeutic Interventions:

Dilatation of narrow sections in the esophagus, pylorus, colon and rectum, as well as in the small intestine (in Crohn’s disease, for example)
Esophageal varicose veins banding
Polyp removal
Argon-beamer coagulation
Endoscopic mucosal resections (mucosectomy and thermal ablation)
All kinds of stenting

We carry out endoscopic papillotomy with gallstone extraction, bile duct and pancreatic drainages. Constrictions of the esophagus, stomach, duodenum, rectum, bile and pancreas ducts can be expanded with the help of synthetic or self-expanding metal lattice stents. In addition, hemorrhoid treatments are offered (obliteration, ligation).
